The YWCA is based on shared leadership between a paid professional staff and volunteers. Each of the YWCA's three Boards is made up of hardworking volunteers without whom, says Executive Director Rita Shaughnessy, "our doors would close. We are so grateful to all the volunteers who give so much of their valuable time to the YWCA. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a talented group of women working to make a difference in the community through our many events and programs."

YWCA Boards

Our YWCA is largely run by a group of dedicated women who sit on the following Boards:

The Board of Directors
The Newcomers Club Executive Board
The Membership Events Board

Nominations for Board positions are solicited each spring. We need women, like you, who support our YWCA's goals to become involved in the policy and programming decisions handled by our Boards.

Spring Fling Benefit Ball

Every year, the YW needs dozens of volunteers to help us plan our major fundraiser, the Spring Fling Benefit Ball. Volunteers handle every aspect of this gala fundraiser, from decorations and invitations to food service and finance. We also need people to solicit donation of goods and services from area merchants for the evening's entertaining (and revenue producing) live and silent auctions. Participating is fun, personally rewarding and a terrific way to build lasting friendships.

Community Outreach and Volunteerism

Would you like to get involved in the community? Our Nominating Chairs can help you to find a project that fits your interests and schedule, and uses your skills.
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people while supporting worthy causes and demonstrating to your children the value and rewards of community service. We support the Norwalk Emergency Shelter's “Manna House of Hospitality” soup kitchen and hold an annual coat drive, “Operation Overcoat”. We also support “Dress for Success, Inc. of Mid-Fairfield County ” by holding bi-annual suit drives.

Direct Line

Do you possess great editing skills? The Direct Line is the YW's main artery of communication. Activities, special events and new program information appear in this publication for the exclusive use of our membership. If you are intersected in electronic publishing, writing and layout please contact us.

Fundraising

The YWCA's members and staff are involved in a wide variety of fundraising efforts to support ongoing programs or one-time projects. Our goal, always, is to have women in the community making a difference. Watch for announcements in the Direct Line, and get involved.

At the YWCA

We can always use help running our office operations. Anyone who has worked in an office knows how even routine tasks like preparing mailings, photocopying and affixing labels can become time and people intensive. If you can spend some time with us doing general office work, we would be grateful. Please call.
